Last weekend’s marathon was a huge success! What a great group of runners!
In total, 252 kilometers (157 miles) were covered along the Camino. Two participants ran the full marathon (26 miles) and eight ran the half marathon (the youngest of whom was 13 years old).
The runners started at different times so that they would all arrive at the finish line around 1:00 p.m. (which didn’t quite work out).
The atmosphere was great. Enthusiastic supporters followed the runners in several support vehicles. And at various spots along the Camino, refreshment stations were quickly set up to provide the runners with what they needed and give them a boost.
With funds raised totaling no less than 21,000 euros for the monastery’s renovation (and a few more transfers still coming in from Canada and the U.S.), this marathon can truly be called a double success.

At the end of this week, we’ll wrap up caring for the monastery’s chickens and plants and return to volunteering at the hostel.
