The leaves on the trees are starting to change color here in Spain, too, and the temperatures are continuing to drop. Our warmest clothes are coming in handy now that the end of the season is just around the corner. Another good reason to ask the Lord what our next destination will be.
Strangely enough, we didn’t feel any urge at all to return to the places we’ve been to over the past two years. We kept praying and listening. And, of course, our faithful Father reveals His ideas to us.
Arjan suddenly had Thailand on his mind but didn’t share that with Amanda. It’s always most beautiful when God speaks to both of us separately. And sure enough, the very next morning, Amanda woke up with a strong desire to go to Chiang Mai in Thailand. Very special, because we hadn’t been focusing on that continent at all.
We kept this destination in prayer to make sure it wasn’t just our own thoughts and ideas, but it kept coming back to us. And so it’s up to us to trust the Lord that He has spoken, even though we don’t yet know what role we’re meant to play there.
People often think that a life with God and a walk of faith is always clear and straightforward. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it’s often a walk in the “unseen”—a step on the water, not knowing what it will bring.
The Kingdom of God operates in such a way that is completely opposite to the world. The world craves certainty, clear plans, comfort, and control over its own life.
But that’s not how it works when you walk with God. He invites us to trust Him even when things are unclear and we can’t see the outcome. He doesn’t do this to annoy us, but because He wants to reveal Himself as the One who is faithful—a rock and a firm foundation on which we can build. And through all of this, He shapes us more and more into the image of Jesus.
So yesterday we said goodbye once again to the lovely group of people in northern Spain and are heading to Thailand, our next destination.
We were there twenty-two years ago during our world trip as well. Back then, we traveled for our own enjoyment, but now we get to walk there with the Lord through the (as yet unknown) adventures He has already prepared. God is faithful!
